Greetings Channelers!

Have you ever met someone who has an extremely luminescent glow or an irresistable spark that you find yourself gravitating towards, drawn in by their rich inner world and bountiful outer beauty?

That was my first impression of ruby onyinyechi amanze, a one-of-a-kind human and artist whose practice centers drawing works on paper.

Profile: Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze (1982-) – Black Art Story

We met a few years ago at a dinner, bonded over being Scorpios and continued to text and meet up for the occasional meal or coffee, where we would talk about process, preserving our peace and embodiment as ritual.

In this month’s interview, I love the way ruby talks about her drawings as having agency, the memories as senses, the unseen world and the art of channeling — recognizing when you are a conduit to the work and the best thing you can do is get out of its way.

I hope you enjoy her brilliance as much as I do.
