My quick hit roundup of what’s on my body, mind and spirit right now.
Audra McDonald in the Broadway revival of “Gypsy,” which someone in our group described it as “dance moms in the 1930s,” if you’re unfamiliar. It was a real gift to see an absolute genius at work (six time Tony winner!) — especially during the second act, when a portrait of a woman undone by maternal wounding and abandonment starts to knit together.
Miranda July recently reminded me that the David Lynch Foundation offers a free Transcendental Meditation course for survivors of gender-based violence. I have my orientation in a few weeks; you can apply here.
These cozy house slippers by Bombas are an absolute must for the wfh’ers in the crowd. I have an older version, but they are so so satisfying, and keeping my feet warm makes my acupuncturists happy. Win win.
It’s dry skin season, and this herbal salve is keeping my skin hydrated and soft despite the brutal temperatures pummeling the country. Made by a collective of women upstate (very much giving Holly Hunter in “Top of the Lake”), it has been a go-to of mine for years, and has yet to disappoint. My friend Sara Elise swears by the Osea body oil; and these hand masks and this AmLactin cream with lactic acid in it have also come highly recommended.
I had the gift of starting the year with a tarot divination by my dearheart Fati. They are a gifted intuitive, a true channeler. And they’re now taking on a limited number of private appointments, for in-person and virtual readings. You can book yours by emailing team@fatimahasghar.net.
What’s keeping you sane right now?
Reading is keeping me sane right now and tracking all that I’m reading each day. Also eating boiled eggs with a drizzle of red chili oil alongside my fancy sardines for a daily snack is keeping me sane and bringing me so much pleasure!
do you know if the transcendental meditation course is just for women or for anyone who is a survivor of gender-based violence?
